PRESENTATION OF ENSEA

Created in 1961, the Institute of Statistics and Applied Economics (Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Statistique et d’Economie Appliquée d’Abidjan, Editor’s Note), ENSEA is a National Public Institution whose vocation is to provide training for statisticians in French-speaking African countries. In June 1969, due to its increasingly international character, a text law established the Institute as a higher education public institution with civil personality and financial autonomy. To date, ENSEA has trained about 4,000 statisticians from more than twenty (20) African countries and Haiti. Decree No. 91-642 of 9 October 1991 specifies the missions and activities of the ENSEA, namely:

(i) the training and development of senior statistician-economists;

(ii) research, production, expertise and consulting in statistics, demography and informatics.

ENSEA is part of the Network of African Statistical Training Schools (ESA), with ISSEA of Yaoundé and ENSAE of Dakar.

ENSEA has been labelled World Bank “African Centre of Excellence” (ACE) since 2015 and “Regional Centre of Excellence” of WAEMU since 2005. ENSEA has been a member of AUF (Association of Francophone Universities) since 2010.

The training of statisticians at ENSEA combines theory and practice. It is provided through four (04) distinct levels of training designed according to the level of student recruitment and the career envisaged at the end of their studies, for initial training. The school also provides continuing training courses for professionals and offers its services in statistical studies and research to national and international institutions. For the very first time, as part of the 2018 – 2019 academic year, the doctoral school open its doors for its first 4 doctoral students.
