From 27 to 30 October 2019, a mission of ENSEA of Abidjan composed of the Director Dr. KOUADIO Hugues and the bilingual translator Hermann BLAFOND carried out a mission to revitalize cooperation between ENSEA and LISGIS (Liberian Institute of Statistics and Geo-Information Services).
It was then about:
- Raising awareness among training partners to create a training framework for students and capacity building for Liberia’s statistical professionals
- Raising awareness among financial and development institutions for financial, material and technical support for student training and capacity building for Liberia’s statistical professionals
- Raising awareness among organizations and businesses about employment opportunities and mobility of Liberian student statisticians
The delegation met with: LISGIS, the Office of the First Lady of Liberia, the Ambassador of France, the Acting President of University of Liberia, the African Development Bank and Minister of Education.
It should be recalled that within the framework of ENSEA project as an African Centre of Excellence and in accordance with the framework agreement signed between the Training School of Statistics and Applied Economics (ENSEA) of Abidjan, and the Liberian Institute of Statistics and Geo-Information Services (LISGIS) signed on 25 August 2015; agreement under which ENSEA and LISGIS agree to work together in the following areas of intervention:
- Initial training of Liberian statistical students;
- Continuing training of Liberian statistical professionals;
- Technical support for research in Liberia;
- Joint activities for resource mobilization (human and material)
From 2009 to 2014, a first cohort of 3 students was trained at ENSEA. Then, from 2015 to 2019, the results of these first 4 years of official collaboration between ENSEA and LISGIS show that 10 students were trained, including 2 students still in training. Indeed, the framework agreement signed on 25 August 2015 between ENSEA and LISGIS officially ended in September 2019, with a validity period of 4 years. It was therefore appropriate to renew it for a new period, especially since two Liberian students are still in training at ENSEA.
